25 Tips on How to Get Alone with Your Mom – Part 1

Posted on 25 August 2009 by olivia

Yes, you love your mom, but lately everything she does makes you want to scream! Before you lose your cool, take a deep breath and follow these tips!

COMMUNICATE

1. Build a positive relationship. Suggest and plan family activities, and do fun things together. This’ll make it easier to deal with your mom when you’re not seeing eye-to-eye. Both of you are more likely to settle your differences if you don’t see each other as “the enemy.”

2. Take a problem-solving approach to conflicts. Try to negotiate a solution both of you can live with, and avoid thinking in terms of a winner and a loser. Don’t operate with an all-or-nothing outlook. If she says no to your request to go to a late show at the movies, consider an earlier show.

3. Don’t say, “My friends can, why can’t I?” Instead, negotiate more on the merits of your own behavior. Show your mom you’ve earned certain privileges.

4. Be aware of what you’re saying—and how you’re saying it. Instead of “You never let me…,” approach her with an “I” statement, like “I’d like to….” You’ll come across less whiny and more responsible.

5. Treat your mom with respect. No matter how frustrated you become with her, avoid name-calling and cruel behavior. Below-the-belt tactics won’t help in improving your relationship with her.

6. Choose the right time to bring things up with her. If your mom is in a bad mood, has had an especially stressful day, or seems preoccupied, you may be better off postponing a heavy-duty discussion. If you need to speak to her about something important, set up a time to talk that works well for both of you.

7. Don’t be accusatory or approach your mom when you’re super upset. You want to convey that you’re mature in how you handle things. Stomping out of the room screaming, “You just don’t understand. I hate you!” only proves that you’re capable of throwing a childish fit. Talk to her in a sane, calm manner, and if things get heated, take a time-out.

8. Don’t do things just to provoke her. Yeah, you may feel satisfied for a few minutes, but chances are, she’ll react by cutting back on your freedoms.

9. Do show your mom that you’re true to your word. If she says you can go to a concert if you’re home by midnight, and you agree to that stipulation, walk the walk. If you arrive home late, she’s less likely to believe you’ll keep your promises in the future.

When Considering a Cool Teen Hairstyle…

Posted on 20 August 2009 by olivia

teenhairstyle

Teens are very finicky when it comes to looking good but just like adults, they should choose a hairstyle that suits their face, frame, features and lifestyle.

A cool teen hairstyle for a girl or boy is low maintenance.  Not even a teen wants to be primping in the school bathroom all day.   Bobs and shorter layered looks will lend volume to any type of hair but consider hair texture; naturally curly hair will not fall the same way a straight hair style will and therefore when choosing a cool teen hairstyle, even if it’s the latest and hottest thing, you’re better of selecting a style that suits your hair quality.

How to gain friends on Twitter

Posted on 11 August 2009 by daniel

twitter

Twitter is the latest craze in social networking and is a great way to meet people, network for business purposes and job searching, and to keep a daily diary. All you need to get started on Twitter is to create an account using your email. Now you are ready to make friends and let the fun begin.

Things You’ll Need:

  1. A Twitter account (you just need an email for an account)
  2. A clear headshot photo of yourself is helpful

Step 1
Adding a mug shot will help you to make friends on Twitter.
Adding a mug shot will help you to make friends on Twitter.

After you create a Twitter account, adding a headshot photo will help you make friends on Twitter. A simple and clear photo will help people to identify that you’re not a spammer and will make your tweets more personable. Many people are discouraged by profiles with no photo or that appear to be SPAM so try to avoid projecting such an image.

Step 2
Now, begin tweeting! Adding funny anecdotes, inspirational quotes, or interesting tidbits about your life will spark people’s interest. Think about your ideal target audience and adjust your tweets accordingly. Do you want to use Twitter for business only or just for personal use? Many people do a mix of both, which seems to be very effective for boosting business, networking and making friends.

Step 3
Start following! After you login, click on “Find People” at the top of your page and you can search for your friends from other online social networks or search for them by their emails. You can also click on trending topics on the right side of your page and then everyone tweeting about the topic you clicked on will show up. You can tweet about the trending topics too and that will make you come up more in searches.

Step 4
Be a good friend! When someone follows you, follow back (unless it’s a spammer of course.) Also, respond to other people’s tweets. People love to talk about themselves, so ask questions and interact and they’ll likely respond to your tweets as well. Also, retweet (RT) people’s comments that you find funny, noteworthy or useful. Just copy their comment and paste it into your update box with the Tweeter’s @name.

Tips & Warnings

  1. Update your tweets several times a day to keep your Twitter friends informed and interested.
  2. Don’t forget to respond when someone replies to your tweets.
  3. For security purposes, be careful not to include too much personal information in your tweets, such as where you live, etc.

How to be popular: Do and Don’t

Posted on 03 August 2009 by olivia

Do:

•    Look approachable. Pleasant people are a joy to be around. People who always walk around looking like their dog just died aren’t. Give people a chance to warm up to you.
•    If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. That might sound like something you would hear from your grandmother, but it is good advice. Even if people around you are denigrating someone, avoid being drawn into negative gossip. If pressed for an opinion just say something neutral like “Well, she’s always been nice to me, so I don’t know” or “Maybe he has personal issues that we don’t know about–who knows?”
•    Be sure to keep in touch with your old friends—you don’t want them to think you’ve forgotten about them just because you’re making new ones. Don’t just hang out with one group all the time, either. Try and alternate a fair amount between the groups, so that people get the impression that you can get along with everyone. Don’t exclude anyone. Enemies and popularity don’t mix.
Don’t
•    Guard your privacy. When everyone knows you, it means that there’s a greater likelihood of nosiness and gossip. Think of how famous celebrities have someone prying into their personal lives at all times (inquiring minds want to know). You’ll also need to be prepared for people starting conversations with you while you’re running errands or sitting down reading a book at the park. It comes with the package. Handle it gracefully.
•    Don’t think too hard. Being popular is as much a state of mind as anything else. If people see you trying too hard to be popular, they will usually dismiss your efforts. Popularity, in the end, is only partly about how others see you. Your reputation may fade and change over time, and the only thing you can control is how you treat others.
•    Don’t be disappointed if you fail. Popularity can be easy for some and practically impossible for others. There are many factors which can prevent a person from being outgoing and well-liked, but that does not mean the person is worth any less.
•    Realize that popularity has its ups and downs, and may fade very quickly when you start at a new school or job. Every situation is different, and sometimes you need to start over.
